Duplicate Driving Licence: The Indian government has established the online ‘Parivahan Sewa’ portal for any issues related to driving licenses for all citizens of India. Through this portal, one can easily change their mobile number in the DL for free, and the DL address can also be changed easily. Today, we will learn how to get a new duplicate driver’s licence through this portal.
How to Get Duplicate DL – Lost Driving Licence
- Open the DL portal website.
- Then select your state name.
- Now select the ‘Duplicate DL’ option.
- Enter your DL number.
- After that, authenticate with Aadhaar.
- Upload the documents.
- Now transfer the fee online.
How to Apply for a Duplicate Driver Licence
When your driving licence is lost or stolen, in this situation, you should first file a police FIR because you will only get the duplicate DL when you upload a photo of this FIR as a Proof Document.
Step 1. Open the portal website.
First, search for ‘Parivahan Sewa’ on Google and then click on the first link to open the Parivahan Sewa website portal. Alternatively, you can also click on this link.
Step 2. Select your state name.
Now, after the road transport website opens, first click on the ‘Driver/Learner License’ option. Then, a new page will open where you can click on ‘Select State Name’ to choose your state.
Step 3. Now select the ‘Duplicate DL’ option.
Now, the transport portal for your state is open in front of you. First, click on the ‘Apply for Duplicate DL’ option. Then, on the next page, click on ‘Continue’.
Step 4. Enter your DL number.
Now, this page has opened in front of you. First, enter your driving licence number and date of birth. Then, enter the security captcha code given on the portal. After that, click on ‘Get Details’.
Now, on the next page, scroll down and select the option ‘Driving Licence Details are mine’ as ‘Yes’. Then, proceed by selecting the pin code of your area and the name of the RTO office, and click on ‘Proceed’.
After that, on the next page, check your details and click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 5. Authenticate with Aadhaar.
Now, you will see two options: first, ‘Submit via Aadhar Authentication’, and second, ‘Submit without Aadhar Authentication’. You can choose either option. If your mobile number is linked with DL, you can choose the second option, and then verify the details.
After that, on the next page, select the option ‘Issue Duplicate DL’ and click on ‘Proceed’. Then, select the reason for the duplicate DL and fill in the ‘Self-Declaration’ box.

Step 6. Upload documents.
Now that your application number has been generated, click on ‘Next’ to proceed to the next page.
After that, first, select the ‘Upload Documents’ option. Then, select the option ‘FIR/NCR Report’ as the document type and enter other details of your FIR. Also, upload a photo of your FIR.
Step 7. Transfer the fee online.
Then click on ‘Next’ to go to the next page and select the ‘Fee Payment’ option. Then, proceed to transfer the fee online through the portal. This fee may vary according to your state.
After that, download the payment slip, and then your application for the duplicate driving licence will be processed. Within a few days, your new driving licence will be delivered to your home by post.

Download your Duplicate Driving Licence
To download your duplicate driving licence, you’ll need to use the Indian government’s DigiLocker. The driving licence downloaded from here is fully valid.
- First, login to the DigiLocker website using your Aadhar number.
- Then, select the ‘Driving Licence’ option.
- After that, select the name of your state.
- Then, enter your driving licence number and click on Submit.
- Your driving licence will then appear in front of you, which you can download.

If your driving licence is ever lost or stolen, immediately file an FIR with the police and apply for a new duplicate driving licence for yourself through the transport department’s online portal. You can also download a digital driving licence for yourself for free from the DigiLocker. This digital DL is as valid as your original DL.
